Privacy of Wallet Labels and Customer Context
Protect off-chain wallet labels and ownership links even when transaction data is public, and apply access and retention rules to enriched reports.

Overview
When translating these concepts into an integration, keep the scope described by the wallet history api with the result. The examples in wallet transaction history and smart contract event logs show how the same distinction affects neighbouring data questions.
Public chain activity can become sensitive when linked to a customer, employee or business label. A data application should protect that enrichment rather than assuming every derived record is public.
Classify enrichment separately
A transaction hash can be public while the statement this wallet belongs to this customer remains private. Notes, import ownership, counterparties and report access can reveal relationships absent from chain data. Apply tenant authorisation and retention policies to the combined record, not only to the original public fields.
Worked example: a support screenshot
A screenshot contains a public wallet address beside a private customer name and internal category. Sharing it publicly exposes the association even though the address alone is public. Redact or use synthetic context for support examples, and keep internal labels out of public site assets and logs.
Test indirect disclosure
Review search indexes, exports, analytics events and cache keys. Verify that deleting a label under the application policy also addresses derived copies where required. Do not infer permission to publish a customer relationship from the visibility of the underlying transactions. Keep privacy decisions separate from technical address validity.
A practical acceptance test
Combine a public address with a private customer label, then test search, export, cache and analytics paths under another tenant. The public transaction may remain accessible independently, but the private association must not leak. Use synthetic labels in screenshots and support artifacts so validation does not itself publish the relationship being protected.
Questions about the topic
Frequently asked questions
Is all wallet-linked application data public?
No. Off-chain ownership and business context can be private.
Can a public address become sensitive in context?
Yes. Linking it to an identity or internal activity can reveal additional information.
