Claimable vs Claimed DeFi Rewards

Separate estimated claimable rewards from realised claim transactions, preserving reward assets, calculation blocks and any conversion or vesting rules.

Editorial illustration accompanying claimable vs claimed defi rewards.

Overview

When translating these concepts into an integration, keep the scope described by the wallet history api with the result. The examples in wallet transaction history and smart contract event logs show how the same distinction affects neighbouring data questions.

A reward shown as claimable is a state-dependent entitlement estimate. A claimed reward is an executed operation. Combining them without a boundary can count the same value twice.

Keep accrual, eligibility and receipt separate

A protocol can track earned rewards, impose claim conditions and deliver a different asset or vesting position. A UI estimate may also be stale by the time a user acts. Store each observation’s block and method rather than attaching the current claimable amount to a historical transaction.

Worked example: claiming part of an amount

A position shows one hundred claimable units. The user claims sixty, leaving forty under a simplified model. A portfolio that keeps the original one hundred as an entitlement and also adds sixty received units now overstates exposure. Refresh or reconcile the entitlement after accepted execution.

Test protocol-specific outcomes

Include partial claims, multiple reward tokens, redirected recipients and failed claims. Retain gross, fee and net quantities where the implementation supports them. Do not automatically classify a claim as newly earned in that instant: technical accrual and economic recognition can have different timelines under the reporting policy.

A practical acceptance test

Start with one hundred claimable units, record a successful sixty-unit claim and refresh the remaining entitlement to forty. Assert that the exposure is not still one hundred plus sixty. Repeat with a failed claim and with a different recipient. The interpreter should retain the attempted operation without manufacturing a received balance or erasing an unchanged entitlement.

Questions about the topic

Frequently asked questions

Is claimable the same as received?

No. It is an observation of a potential claim under current rules.

Does every claim deliver a freely transferable token?

No. Some mechanisms deliver vested or otherwise restricted positions.
