Aptos Move Resources in Blockchain Data Models

Model Aptos account resources and typed state with version context, instead of assuming every asset record follows an ERC-20 contract-address pattern.

Overview

When translating these concepts into an integration, keep the scope described by the wallet history api with the result. The examples in wallet transaction history and smart contract event logs show how the same distinction affects neighbouring data questions.

Move-based resource models require type and account context. A cross-chain integration should preserve those identities even when it presents a familiar wallet or asset summary.

Retain the typed state identity

An account can hold resources whose types and fields describe application state. Network, account, resource type and ledger version can all matter to interpretation. A display name does not replace a fully specified type. Asset frameworks can evolve, so inspect the relevant standard and deployment rather than assuming every asset uses one historical resource layout.

Worked example: the same label, different types

Two modules expose assets with similar human-readable names. Grouping their resources by that name can merge unrelated holdings. A typed identity keeps module and type context available, while the UI can still display a readable name. Historical observations additionally retain the ledger version used to read the state.

Version the decoder

Test missing resources, changed schemas and unsupported asset frameworks. Keep raw type information and transaction evidence for later interpretation. A current resource value should not be attached to an earlier transaction without a historical read or justified reconstruction. Common multi-chain fields should complement, rather than erase, these network-specific structures.

A practical acceptance test

Provide two similarly named resources from different module/type identities and retain both. Read one at two ledger versions with different values. A historical response must use its requested version, not the latest resource value. An unsupported resource schema should remain identifiable and undecoded rather than being forced into a generic ERC-20-shaped balance.

Questions about the topic

Frequently asked questions

Is an asset name a complete Move type identity?

No. Preserve module and type context.

Can current resources establish every historical balance?

No. Historical questions require versioned evidence or validated reconstruction.
